Congratulations to the 7 Kelly High School recipients of the In The Game Scholarship funded by the Reva and David Logan Foundation!

The In The Game Scholarship was created in 2016 to encourage Kelly’s female and nonbinary students in pursuing and completing an undergraduate degree. Every school year,  5-6 recipients are awarded a total  of $20,000 for the four years of their undergraduate studies. Along with the monetary award, each student is supported by Kelly’s student support coordinator to ensure they are able to reach their academic goals.

A special luncheon for the honorees took place after school in the college career center in May. The center was decorated with graduation hat garlands and tables lined with festive tablecloths. The recipients were accompanied by family members and joined by Kelly teachers and staff members.

After enjoying a delicious Italian meal together, the family and staff members filled out cards with positive affirmations for the honorees as they begin this new chapter of their education journey.

Gaby Castillo-Cuayahuitl, a recipient of the class of 2020 Logan Scholarship, shared advice to the soon to be graduates: use all the resources available to you. Gaby obtained her BA in Social Work from UIC and now works as a case manager for BPNC at Brighton Park Elementary and Boroughs Elementary.

Congratulations to Alondra Correa, Dulce Paredes Alonso, Esmeralda Pineda, Giselle Velasco, Liliana Flores, Yeremi Unzueta, and Estrellita Badillo!

University I’m attending in the fall: Saint Xavier University

Why did you pick the university? The reason I decided on Saint Xavier is because when I attended admitted day on April 12th, I really liked the campus style and also because they had the majors that I’m thinking about.

What are you taking from your time at Kelly? I will be taking all the information that my senior seminar and counselor gave me because it will help me a lot in college.

What are you leaving behind? I will be leaving behind all my memories and the reason for that is because even though I made some nice memories at Kelly, it’s best I leave them behind since I’m starting a new chapter in my life and would like to restart.

What are your goals for university? To continue working hard in my classes so I could get good grades, be more involved, join clubs, make new friends etc.

Do you have a field of study that you are interested in? Yes, it’s Nursing. In the fall I have to go into healthcare administration because that’s what I picked but I’m hoping to be able to transfer into nursing because I would like to become a nurse.
