Filling Up Families with Pantry Days this Winter
A windy bittery cold Wednesday afternoon does not stop the Davis Elementary Parent Patrol team. Every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, the group of six partners with the Greater Chicago Food Depository to distribute 200 boxes filled with fresh fruit and vegetables and nonperishable items to families in Brighton Park.
Estela Diaz is one of the leaders of the Parent Patrol. She’s served as a volunteer for twelve years helping students safely cross the street to and from school. Her lively energy keeps the team laughing and welcomes all those to the food pantry by name, recognizing their presence time and time again.
Alongside Estela, BPNC’s Housing Counselors, Victoria and Jasmin, signed individuals up for services at the organization. Interconnecting services with pantry days ensures that families that most need support are directly receiving referrals to support like case management, foreclosure prevention, housing counseling and more.
