Southwest CPS Students Attend a Cubs Game
Learn more about our community schools.
It was a chilly Spring day, yet the weather didn't stop the students from enjoying a day off at the ballpark! Many of these students don't have the opportunity to visit neighborhoods outside of the southwest side. So the game on April 13 felt special in more ways than one.
Over 225 students from Kelly High School, Brighton Park Elementary, Burroughs Elementary, Davis Elementary, Shields Elementary, and Shields Middle School attended a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field versus the Atlanta Braves. College mentors and resource coordinators were also there to chaperone the students.
This was the first time visiting Wrigley Field for most students. A Shields Middle student said, "attending the Cubs game was fun because I have never been to one of there games before." Another Shields Middle School student enjoyed spending the day bonding with his friends and seeing Cubs players. A Kelly High School student mentioned how different Lakeview neighborhood was to the southwest side.
This was a wonderful experience for both students and staff!
