BPNC Responds to Trump's Decision to Rescind DACA

September 5, 2017

DACA is under attack. Since 2012, DACA has help 800,000 people work without the fear of deportation. We will continue to #defendDACA.

The Trump administration announced the termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. This is just the latest in a series of racist policies put forth by this administration that criminalize communities of color and separates families.

The DACA program gave youth the opportunity to work and pursue their education. Without DACA, hundreds of thousands of young adults will lose their jobs. Their access to higher education will be limited. In Brighton Park and throughout the entire country, families are struggling to understand what this will mean for their future. In this moment of uncertainty, we must believe in the strength of our community to come together and remain united and resilient in the face of this injustice. The DACA program was created after thousands of undocumented youth organized and came out of the shadows to demand recognition of their right to dignity and respect. Today’s announcement by Jeff Sessions and Donald Trump will not take away their leadership, strength, and determination to continue to fight for the rights of all immigrants.

Brighton Park Neighborhood Council (BPNC) refuses to accept the decision of the Trump administration. BPNC will continue to fight against xenophobic policies that target our communities. We commit to challenging every elected official in our city, state, and country to do more to support our youth and end the criminalization of all communities of color.

•    We urge Congress to act immediately to pass legislation that creates a path to citizenship for youth and their parents.

•    We demand Rahm Emanuel and City Council pass amendments to the Welcoming City ordinance to establish Chicago as a real sanctuary city.

•    We call on our Congress to end all deportations and protect the rights of ALL undocumented immigrants.

Please join us in calling on our elected officials and demanding immediate action! Call Senators Durbin and Duckworth today!
