BPNC received a grant from United Way to form the Connecting Families program derived the Safer Through Unity program. The goal of Connecting Families is to inform community members about current immigration issues that are affecting the everyday life of immigrants.
We began our program by conducting surveys in Brighton Park. We gained more information on what our community members want to learn. From these surveys, we learned that people were interested in immigration and mental health services. We organized three workshops to educate community members about the topics that they were interested in: Know Your Rights, DACA vs. DREAM Act, and Immigration and Mental Health. We held these workshops in Brighton Park and about 20 people attended each workshop.
Connecting Families is valuable program to have in our community. Community residents share what their neighborhood needs. Community members understand the programs their neighbors need.
