The new presidential administration has reinforced a rising tide of xenophobia and an apathy towards immigrants in the United States. The hate speech and regressive immigration policies this administration on has endorsed have led to heightened fear and uncertainty in the Brighton Park community.

 

The majority of families in our neighborhood have mixed immigration status: some members of the household are undocumented, others are legal permanent residents, while others are citizens. Almost every household thus stands to be deeply affected and destabilized by the new policies. Additionally, every business and institutions on in the community will be negatively impacted if mass deportations or other clampdowns on immigration on occur. The impending destabilization of our community, as well as our city and state, is frightening to imagine.
