United Not Divided 2018 Youth Summit

On May 23rd, Brighton Park Neighborhood Council (BPNC) hosted 400 middle school students for our 9th annual Youth Summit at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The day long event was organized by the BPNC Student Voice Committees(SVCs) at 6 participating schools. Throughout the year, SVC members met weekly to discuss pressing issues in their schools and communities, advocate for policy changes at their schools, and to plan the youth summit. Students were involved in every stage of the summit’s planning process from the T-shirt design to the workshops planning. Logan Foundation Awards 5 Kelly High School Scholarships

For the third year in a row, BPNC and the Reva and David Logan Foundation have awarded 5 Kelly High School female seniors with $20,000 for college tuition over four years. After a rigorous selection process, which included a written application and interview, our scholarship committee announced the winners at the Kelly High School Decision Day Celebration on May 17. The five winners and their selected colleges are: Susana De La O, DePaul University Vanessa Velazquez, Trinity Christian College Wendy Blanquel-Garcia, DePaul University Nathaly Rivera, Roosevelt University Karen Tolentino, Illinois State University The winners will receive $5,000 each year for four years, in addition to mentorsh
